After the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) the other day, it was Congress on Friday that attracted a galaxy of film stars from Bollywood who joined the party to campaign in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Those who joined the party are comedian Asrani, newcomer Sharad Kapoor and actresses Zeenat Aman, Namrata Shirodkar and Celina Jaitley.
They joined in the presence of senior Congress leader Kamalnath and at crowded press conference in the capital and faced questions from reporters.
Asrani while justifying his joining the Congress, reminded everyone present of party’s long history and it’s role in the country’s freedom struggle. He claimed that the Congress was the only organisation that had given the nation the momemtum of progress it needed.
Asrani taunted Bharatiya Janata Party’s `India Shining Campaign’ theme saying that it was jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi who really have brought the progress it had made after independence.
The comedian also claimed that current reforms in the country were actually initiated by late Raji Gandhi and the Bharatiya Janata Party was trying to take credit for it.
Meanwhile, former Miss World Yukta Mookhey joined the BJP party. The model turned actress campaigned for the party during the assembly elections.
Sharad Joshi, leader of an organisation that fought for the cause of farmers in Maharashtra and outside, also joined the saffron party on Friday.
Joshi, who came to prominence in the 1980s through his Shetkari Sangathana, joined BJP in the presence of party General Secretary Pramod Mahajan.
He maintained that his decision would have a major impact in the politics of Maharashtra specifically and elsewhere in the country. Joshi was of late heading Swatantra Bharat Party.
